SELECTED WORK

Prompt: Transference.

When observing the process of this piece, transference is required in printmaking. When printing on clothing, you only get one shot at it, if the print doesn't come out well the garment is somewhat ruined. The graphic I chose to carve and print onto this tiny shirt I made was intended to . The shirt is intended for the viewer to "wear", but I made it smaller so it read as a sculpture of sorts. The thumbprint design is intended to represent the marks we make on other people without knowing it, we can affect them psychologically forever unbeknownst. The viewer "wears" the shirt that I have impressed on. It's an example of transference in an artful way, that I have made my mark on this viewer and projected onto them. By choosing the word "IMPRESS" to work in tandem with the thumbprint, it both relates to the printmaking process, but also the impression I want to make on the viewer. Art can be a means to impress people, which is my goal in this hometest and the reviewers of it. This multifaceted piece touches on both the literal and psychological definition of the word "transference".
